Joshua Yi graduated with BS, MS, and PhD degrees, all in EE, from the University of Minnesota. After graduating, he worked for Freescale Semiconductor for five years, where he primarily did microprocessor/SoC performance analysis work. Dr. Yi has published over 30 peer-reviewed book chapters, articles, and papers in the field of computer architecture. Two of his papers won a best paper award. In addition, he co-founded two well-known international workshops and co-wrote two successful research grant proposals worth approximately $500K.

Dr. Yi received his JD from the University of Texas and is admitted to practice in Texas and before the PTO. He worked for Dechert LLP for seven years doing patent litigation, where he participated in all aspects of patent litigation including infringement contentions, claim construction, discovery, expert reports, dispositive motions, and three jury trial verdicts. Starting in August 2019, Dr. Yi clerked for the Honorable Alan D Albright in the Western District of Texas for 16 months where he managed all of Judge Albright's patent cases.

Dr. Yi is currently working as technical advisor / special master for federal judges nationwide, where he assists courts with claim construction, motions for summary judgment, Daubert motions, and trial-related issues. Between his time as a clerk and technical advisor, he has worked on approximately 100 claim construction hearings.

In 2021, Dr. Yi was appointed to the editorial board of IEEE Micro, which is IEEE’s flagship publication on computer architecture, and where he writes a column on patents analytics.
